This list shows where various metro area counties/cities get their water. Please add to it. Reference sources if you're able to.
- Alpharetta, City of: Residents of Alpharetta purchase water from Fulton County [1]
- Atlanta, City of: Chattahoochee River, south of Buford Dam [2]
- Baldwin, City of: Chattahoochee River, north of Lake Lanier
- Cherokee County: Etowah River, and some supply from Cobb County [3]
- Clayton County: Their own reserviors, with supplemental water from the Flint River. [4]
- Cobb County: Lake Allatoona and the Chattahoochee River (south of Buford Dam)
- College Park, City of: Sweetwater Creek in Douglas County [5]
- Cumming, City of: Lake Lanier [6]
- DeKalb County: Chattahoochee River, south of Buford Dam [7]
- Douglas County: Dog River [8]
- Forsyth County: Lake Lanier [9] purchased from the city of Cumming [10]
- Fulton County: Chattahoochee River, south of Buford Dam [11]
- Gainesville, City of: Lake Lanier [12]
- Gwinnett County: Lake Lanier [13], also on the Chattahoochee River, south of Buford Dam for emergency use only.

- McDonough, City of: John Fargason (Walnut Creek) Reservoir & two wells [15]
- Roswell, City of: Big Creek Watershed with supplemental water purchased from Atlanta [16]
- Sandy Springs, City of: The Sandy Springs Web site includes a water info link to the City of Atlanta Dept. of Watershed Management, implying that residents of Sandy Springs purchase their water from Atlanta.

Thank you to wspurlock for this info. Taking the above list plus additions, this list shows how much water is used (in millions of gallons a day) from each location. A zero indicates either the water is puchased elsewhere or is not from the Chattahoochee or Lake Lanier.
