Bear Creek Reservoir
From Atlanta Water Shortage Wiki
The 505 acre Bear Creek Reservoir is the primary water source for Athens-Clarke, Barrow, Jackson and Oconee counties. Oconee County been selling between 10 to 16 million gallons of water per month to Walton county. The reservoir has a capacity of 4.8 billion gallons of water and is impounded by a 90-foot high and 950-foot long earth fill dam. It has an average weekly outflow of 30 million gallons of water.
In late October public fishing access to Bear Creek Reservoir was closed because some people were driving out onto the dry lake bed left by the drought. As of November 6, 2007 the drought has left the reservoir 13 feet below its normal level.
