The snow was fun, but did it help?

Mini SnowmanGiven the prediction of a warm, dry winter, I figured it was pretty unlikely that we’d see snow this year — much less see snow twice in a week!

It’s been fun to play in, but has it helped? Not really. The two storms combined only brought us about 2/10″ of water, which isn’t very much at all.

Lake Lanier continues to slowly rise, but it’s probably not enough compared to how much it should rise this winter. Sadly, it looks like our next good chance of rain won’t be until the end of the month.

Supposed to rain about 1 inch today in Georgia, but yes the snow was just fun to look at.

About 1/2 inch of rain today, so so far this year rainfall has been less than expected. Therefore I doubt level of Lake Lanier will rise much before start of summer.

Conflicting predictions lately from meteorologists and other national experts are:
Early January- LA Nina weather pattern is forming in western pacific and if it continues to develop and strengthen, it will mean more rain for Southeast US over the next 3-4 months than originally expected.
Mid January- El Nino weather pattern will likely form over Southeast in summer and strengthen as we go into fall, bringing more rain to the Southeast than previousely expected.

Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. The point is that weather experts can’t predict with 100% accuracy what the 5 day forecast will be, much less the next several months. It’s an educated guess at best as the weather patterns change faster than anyone can accurately predict. David Stokesbury thinks he has a responsibility to make people keep water conservation a priority and we all should. But I for one am tired of his doom and gloom hypothesis and I have a suspicion that he is a bleeding heart, tree hugging environmentalist at heart with his own agenda. I have always been conscious of the water I use, even before it was an issue. If everyone used water responsibly, this blog wouldn’t even exist.
