Centennial skating rink will be filled with water trucked in from Kentucky
Ice Guys, the company that will be installing the ice skating rink at Centennial Olympic Park this year, announced that they’ll be trucking in the water needed for the rink.
They weren’t specifically told anything about a ban on water for the use of the rink, but officials “felt it would be better if the water came from a place where it isn’t in such short supply.”

Interestingly enough, they don’t mention the option for using synthetic ice for the main rink. The Park has a kiddie rink adjacent to the main rink which is made with commercial grade synthetic ice. I wonder if it wasn’t financially viable for a larger rink of synthetic ice, but it seems more environmentally responsible to go that route than take water from somewhere else and ship it here for a sparsely attended, month-long open ice rink.

What is the point? Why not put up a big sign that says, “Water is a precious resource, and this year there is not enough for an ice skating rink. Folks from Orme, TN would come here and steal it in order to wash their Christmas turkeys.” It floors me that the ice rink is even an issue to be considered.
