Georgia Water Coalition report released — and they’re not pleased

Georgia Water CoalitionAs expected, the Georgia Water Coalition report has been released. I’ve not been able to find a copy of the report yet, but some interesting snippets have come out.

  • 11Alive
    • “The report cites a legacy of waste, namely 18 percent of water treated and cleaned is lost due to leaky pipes while millions of homes still using wasteful plumbing.”
  • AJC
    • “members of the Georgia Water Coalition said Wednesday that a few water conservation measures could save Metro Atlanta nearly 85 million gallons a day, almost enough to supply DeKalb County.”
    • State Rep. Brian Thomas (D-Lilburn) … We didn’t just wake up …. facing a water crisis. But we seem to be acting like it.”
  • Pensacola News Journal
    • “And the group said water use in the metro Atlanta area is about 70 gallons per person per day. That’s nearly twice the 45.2 gallons per person that is considered to be a conservation level. “
    • “it said that, on average, metro-Atlanta water lines leak nearly twice as much as industry standards say is acceptable.”
    • Joe Cook, executive director of the Coosa Basin Initiative, described as “ludicrous” some recent remarks by Gov. Sonny Perdue and others suggesting that booming development in the Atlanta area was not responsible for the water shortage.

Pretty vicious, but entirely accurate…

Do you know how to report water restriction violators in the city of Atlanta? I can’t find a number or e-mail address anywhere.. I’m looking to report one of the apartment complexes on 17th st. that waters every morning. I know because there’s water all over the road!
