A cheap greywater system for home use is the bathtub and a small bucket. An additional big bucket will make life easier.
1) Put plug in bathtub drain
2) take morning showers (assuming your shower is not sperate from bathtub)
3) use water from tub to flush toilet
4) use the big bucket to hold extra water, so you don't have to stand in cold water next morning

This has been done for years in San Francisco during their frequent drought years.
