Alabama asks Bush to deny Perdue’s request

Alabama Governor Bob Riley sent a letter today to President Bush asking him to deny Gov. Perdue’s request to halt the Corps of Engineers water releases from Lake Lanier.

Riley essentially says that his state has been very good in dealing with the water situation, cutting the water flow to various industries (and a nuclear power plant) would be a bad idea, and that we have 260 days of water left.

The “260 days” statement is quite interesting. Riley claims that’s the number he was given by the Corps last week, but the Fresh Loaf blog was told five days ago that there was just 112 days left.  Other reports have ranged from 80 to 120 days.  I’ve not heard anything near 260 anywhere.

A full analysis of the letter can be found in the Fresh Loaf blog.
