How much water do you use?
Fresh Loaf points us to this PDF from the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District that helps you determine how much water you’re using, then gives some tips on how to cut back. If you’re using more than 70 gallons per day, per person, you’re using too much.
How do you figure out how much you’re using each day? Look on your water bill. First, determine the total gallons used in the previous billing cycle. If the total on the bill is in:
- Cubic meters (m3), multiply it by 264 to get gallons.
- Cubic feet (CF or CCF), multiply it by 748 to get gallons.
- Liters (L), multiply it by 0.264 to get gallons.
If you water bill doesn’t show your average daily use, then divide your total gallons by the number of days in that billing cycle (somewhere around 30, probably). Finally, divide that by the number of people in your household. Is the final number over 70? You need to cut back.
Their tips are fairly standard (fix leaks, change shower heads, take shorter showers, etc), but it never hurts to hear them again.
